Aid For Friends

Suited up for business!

Today, the girls and I, plus a group of fellow UUFLB congregationalists, spent a few hours helping the Aid For Friends‘ mission in Philadelphia. Papa helped slice up a dozen boned turkeys, while the girls helped portion out fruit, pasta & potatoes onto hundreds of single serving tin trays.  Everyone then helped to cover, label and seal the trays in plastic bags and stack them to be delivered to the needy later in the week. I’ve never seen the girls work so hard (I was a very proud father) … they went non-stop for almost two and a half hours.  By the time we left they were exhausted, but proud of their contribution.  Later in the day, they were to have their piano & guitar recital (to be posted soon), so they only had a short car ride to listen to Regina Spektor and get their energy back!

Softball – First Game

The first Softball game for Elisa was on Tuesday, April 14. While the first half of the season was to get the girls acclimated to the game, and go easy on the players, The Purple Pandas didn’t go easy on the BlueBerry Muffins (and who would with a name like that  🙂 ).  The Pandas batted like champions and there were a few stellar plays in the field, the most memorable was Elisa’s back-handed catch of a pop fly in the infield … Papa was very proud!

Penn TKD Promotion Test / 4.11.10

Yesterday, Mama & Papa had a promotion test for the students in the Penn Tae Kwon Do Club.  Thanks to Elisa, Gabriella and some of the students, we actually have some pictures to show from this event.  Everyone tried very hard, and it was a great event for all. Mama concurred her fears, and did a great demonstration of the bed of nails, with swords across her abdomen.

PAA Softball Opening Ceremony

A few days ago, it was in the high 80’s, but this morning, for PAA Softball’s opening ceremonies, it was only in the 40’s, and windy. That didn’t stop the girls from having fun and enjoying the festivities.  Led by the Phillie Phanatic and the Trenton Thunder’s Boomer, the teams paraded onto the field to kick off the new season. Elisa got to hug the mascots and Boomer even signed her visor.

Easter Morning, 2010

Easter Morning HaulWe had to drag Elisa out of bed so we could go search for eggs this morning.  The girls had a successful search, but a few slugs had found the eggs before them.  They had to have Mama help open the eggs (I know, hard to believe), to take the chocolate away from the little pests  :o  Then we all sat down to one of Papa’s famous omelets, with goat cheese  🙂   Oh, and we might have had a little chocolate too.

Elisa’s Sleep Study

Last night, Elisa had her sleep study done at a branch of CHOP in King of Prussia. She’s been having pains in her leg(s) for a while, and we wanted to make sure she didn’t have her Mom’s ‘restless legs.’ The test went well, and like all the rest of the tests that Elisa takes, she passed with flying colors.

We arrived around 7:00pm, and were shown to our “suite,” which turned out to be a hospital “stall.”  Elisa got settled in her bed, with a TV dangling in front of her (she was in heaven 🙂 )  while I (tried) to make myself comfortable on my bed/chair, until the nurse came in to hook up Elisa.  Since she was the oldest of the 4 kids having a study done, she was the last to get ‘plugged-in.’  After over an hour, she was finally ready for sleep at 10pm.

She & Dad slept surprisingly well, and the Nurse only needed to come in and adjust wires a couple times during the night. We were awaken a 6am to the screams of the 4 yr.old protesting to the way the stickers were being torn off him.  Elisa was a trouper, no screams, and we were soon out of there – home in time for breakfast with Mama by 7:30 am!

Trip to MA & Vivvi Nevaeh; AKA: SNOT

This past weekend, the family took its annual winter trip to Massachusetts (Franklin & New Bedford).  As usual, while Mama & Papa traveled to New Bedford for a great day of Tae Kwon Do, the Fabian & Macera girls worked hard on creating their play: Vivvi Nevaeh; AKA: SNOT. On Sunday morning there was a one-time-only showing of this short musical. But luckily, this performance has been captured “on film” and available to you here, NOW. First, here are some stills from it, followed by the movie.

RACE for the CURE

Race for the Cure

On Mothers Day (May 9, 2010), Gabriella will be participating in the Race for the Cure in Philadelphia.

She was inspired by her friend, Katleyn, whose mom died of breast cancer. She will be running it with her mom, teacher, Katleyn and other kids from her 5th grade class and will be dedicating her run to Katleyn’s mom, Kirsten, who passed away a couple of months ago, fighting Breast Cancer.

Please consider making a contribution to support Gabriella’s effort, by going to her personal page.

You may also call her with the amount you will be pledging and can send the donation, payable to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, to her at our address.  Race  Day is Mother’s Day, May 9, 2010 and she needs to submit all donations by then.

Skiing / 2.21.10

While Papa basked in the hot tub, and drank a beer at the lodge, the girls skied the slopes of Snö Mountain and had a great 2-day trip. They skied a Saturday evening under the lights, and hit the slopes for another 6 hours on Sunday. Papa was tired, and cold, just watching.
